I personally use Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) which is free and was reviewed in a recent NCJ or possibly QST/CQ. I too have found that you can cut stuff from the middle of recordings,

This has not been my experience. My experience is that the auto-cq delay time is always from the START of transmission of the first CQ to the START of transmittion of the next CQ, regardless of mode
