I'm finally going to try SS SSB at the club station. We want to set up the 0-9, a-z, etc files for each operator, but using WL to make them (Shift-Fkey) leaves gaps. And Sound Recorder doesn't work m

YES! Use a standalone audio/recording software program. What I use is way too expensive for your needs here, so perhaps others can chime in here with some freeware or inexpensive options for you. 73
