I would consider old telephone company "C-wire"...it is/was used for the drops from poles to houses etc, and is a 2 conductor, copper clad steel arrangement imbedded in an extremely durable plastic.

I think the problem is most prevalent at the end of summer and into the fall.....the "tower flies" as we jokingly call them, are trying to get warm and the heat absorbed and re-radiated on the metal
