I have used 4:! balun as you are contemplating and I have also used a length of coax soldered directly to the 450ohm open feeder line. A 1:1 balun between coax and open wire feeder would be okay, too

Your 3/8 wave 160 Inv L should be more like 58m in length. Then your series feeding capacitor would be more like 225mmf. Try to find a variable capacitor to adjust the Inv L to freq of choice. de Joe

Feeding with ladder line you will need the 2x40m dipole if you want to load up for 160m and this will require the MFJ balanced line tuner. 80 and 40 will be okay also. de Joe, aa4nn _________________

HI Gary, All you need do is emulate the Battle Creek Special. You can google to get specifics. The BCS uses only one wire to top load for 160m and only one wire to top load for 80m. Excellent antenna
