An even better implementation of the SCAF filter would be to get it within the audio AGC loop. I set up my Omni A that way with a Datong FL3 - outstanding! Al, K2ZN __________________________________

The type of RX antenna and QTH noise floor certainly play no small part as well. My Omni V is no slouch in the RX capability dept., but I could never hear the beacon when the power dropped below 5 mW
