I agree with Bob that the most likely problem purely from sitting is the lytics in the power supply. I would turn it on as Bob suggested, letting the caps reform if they're going to. Chances are at l

TenTec radios run quite nicely from plain vanilla 13.8V power supplies. The only thing the TenTec supply adds to the equation is some overload protection, but reasonably careful operation of the radi

FWIW, the Herc II works quite nicely with a generic 13.8V supply of sufficient heft. I use two Astron 70's, with their regulators linked. It will take very heavy duty service -- it's been through sev

A bit of an oversimplification. Two issues. #1 -- Power rating. PSK is a continuous mode, and most rigs must be "de-rated" by at least 3 dB (run at half their CW power) to avoid damage to the output

FWIW, -25 dB is not that great. 25dB down from 100 watts is 0.25 watts, enough to QRM a weak signal. 73, Jim _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com

That is exactly right. It is the basis of my recommendations that 1) the sound card run so that the output level is at least 3 dB below clip, which reduces the distortion produced by the sound card;

The Herc II is a very operator friendly, good quality amp. It DOES require that the load connected to it be pretty close to 50 ohms -- in other words, it needs a tuner between it and most antennas. T
