I don't know about any updates but Ten Tec will still go through the unit for you if you send it in. I also use a 544 as a primary unit with the 104 mic and get good reports. I'm in the Chicago area

Marty, I don't see any ext. ALC on the rear but there is an ALC pot & Drive pot on the front and I suppose you could use this to lower the drive power that way. Never worked QRP my self but did build

Steve, Yes, that is the ground lug. Normally it has a ring terminal with a solder lug sticking out that they soldered the ground wire to. It is not the large type used on some of the tuners and other

Steve, Sorry that my answer wasn't what you needed but I am not sure what you mean by 'RF Ground'. The ground terminal on the 540 (looking at the rear of the chassis) is to the right of the heat sink

Don't know about WWII but when I arrived at the Navy squadron & went to radioman school there, I needed 18 wpm to graduate. After flying as a radioman for 2 to 3 years we normally ran at about 25-28
