One clarification...SED was not spun off of Svetlana. It is the same St. Petersburg factory, but a legal dispute over the Svetlana brand name forced the name change. I know two hams with Alpha 86 amp

I would find a 1980's vintage copy of the Radio Handbook. They are always on eB... I also agree with trying out a proven design first and then playing with it to see what changes do to the results. P

RF parts lists 4CX800's at $349 each so two for legal limit is $698. Eimac 8877 is $799 with good MRI pulls in the $250 range. A new 3CX1500D7 is $695 direct from Eimac. I have never been a fan of R

I wouldn't buy them from that internet place unless they were from someone that guaranteed them and has tested them. Most of them are sold as-is with comments like "they worked when they got pulled"
