Sure, the East Coast has the advantage in the DX contests. The W5s have the advantage in the Domestic contests. And the West Coast has the advantage in any contest that focuses on Asia, like the AA.

Thanks for the replies. Of the 20 or so I received, most (90%) echoed my own thoughts: stick with what people know! The extra activity generated by VX probably isn't worth the repeats it will generat

I don't think it is the sole reason, although probably makes it worse. In this case I just call 'em and if it's a dupe, it's a dupe. I'd encourage you to do the same. Maybe we can change the behavior
