The caps might work OK. Another alternative is to try the Lutron dimmers, available at Home Depot and Lowe's. We built a new house last year and have probably 50 of those things all over the place. I

The Lutron dimmers I have are not the expensive models. As I recall they are "ordinary" and sell for just a few dollars. I'm sure the commercial units must have some advantages but I can't see paying
