Yes,  in this failure more, the ring gear tang is up against the pivoting lever arm that opens the CW end-of-travel switch.  In thinking about it some more, I wonder if the lever arm is loose vertica

Turns out the motor start capacitor wires were wired across the controller side of the limit switches, not the motor leads.  Everything works now.  I think the previous owner put the capacitor near t
