I'm getting serious about building an 813 amp as winter project and need some input from other OT's who've played with these tubes on 17 meters and above. Plans are to go with three or four tubes in

2. [Amps] Toroidal filament choke and DC current (score: 1)
Author: Peter Bertini <radioconnection@gmail.com>

I'm building a four tube 813 amplifier and I am planning to use a 240-43 toroid core for the filament choke. I've seen some concerns about core saturation due to the DC cathode current involved in th

That answers a lot of questions... I doubt cathode current would ever reach one amp. So, essentially adding a DC bucking winding is an academic exercise is and not needed, I added the neutralization

I am not versed in the construction of the surplus caps coming from Russia and other eastern Eu. countries... but I do have several that have minor chipped edges due to poor packing. Is this only a c

These are rated for 500 watts by Bird, but going by the size of the load resistor I'd imagine they are able to handle considerably more power for short periods of time. The Bird 82A manual doesn't gi

My best guess is ALC overshoot. What is the exciter? Is this a new problem that came up with a previously working system, or is it a new setup that has bugs? Pete ____________________________________

That amp uses a 3-500Z tube? It should be good to go a few seconds after turn on. _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mai

I have several 470pF @ 15kV RF doorknob caps that have a 40kbap rating. Seller says the kbap markings are the same as our kvar. How do I calculate the maximum RF current these can handle? Is this the

Check for an open equalizing resistor; sounds like a cap problem. Open resistor can cause that failure in a cap. _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com

Unfortunately, the K3 transmitter IMD specs are not good enough for amplifier testing. A two-tone generator is the easiest part of this equation. Not sure what the solution is, a pair of final amplif
