Orion's AGC doesn't influence the signal to noise ratio significantly (which is very, veru good). It mostly influences the perceived audio volume. Therefore, the threshold value is not critical. Star

Use "Auto". The 2.4 kHz filter used in addition to a similar DSP filter will significantly reduce the bandwidth. Measured bandwidth is 2.174 kHz at -3 dB, and the filter is practically flat to ~ 2.0

Yes, I've also found power setting accurate and meter way off. But this time I observed meter continually fluctuating between readings of 0, 15 and 60 W, while the actual RF output did not fluctuate

Internal mechanism is immaterial. Overall gain (whatever it may be) is constant for signals below the threshold, and decreases above it to prevent increase in audio volume. This is easily verified. B
