The brake on my Ham-M occassionally stuck in the 'open' position. Lubriplate, several disassemblies, inspections, etc. did nothing. I finally replaced the brake wedge (Hygain) and no further problems

You don't say what you are going to put on the mast. If it's light weight and small you could use 2" aluminum boom sections as your mast. These boom sections are usually 4 to 6 feet long and swedged

Tuning one element as you describe is for preliminary adjustment only. When all elements are in place you tune it as a system. I assume you are feeding the 4 square with a phasing box such as Comtek.

I suspect your problem is with the 80m radials. The elevated radials are resonant so they should be trimmed for resonance first by feeding two radials at the center as if they were a dipole and then
