Gerry... Definitely run two wires to the battery. Also ground the Amp solidly to the car frame at it's mount point. Also fuse _both_ power wires near the battery. Several scenarios to worry about. 1.

Bill objected to my advice but didn't say what was bad about the multiple ground approach. And his suggestion to use RF current carrying capacitors at the 400W power level is questionable. All mobile

Steven... Here's an idea.... Build the amp with any style you want, but also build an antenna tuner like box containing a 50 Ohm to 50 Ohm PiNet. Put the little tuner box on the operating table and r

Has anyone used a coleman lantirn pyrex envelope for the cooling chimney for a 4-1000? Did it fit? Did it work? jeff, wa1hco

I like the idea of an external tuner with some harmonic rejection. It sounds like the high power PA's need to see a broadband 50 Ohm match. We might consider a weak diplexor that transfers power on t

This is a ripple calculation based on the basic capacitor formula I = C * dV / dT Let's say you want 3% ripple at 4 KV...that's 120V. The capacitor charges on each line peak, twice in each 60 Hz cycl

We can really flog things to death here, can't we? Yes, it depends on line frequency. If you're designing a three phase amp and need to ask about filter caps, you're in way too much trouble. (besides
