When I switch off my Prius hybird and my 2 meter radio is on 147.000Mhz, I get a S-5 level buzz in my kenwood TM-D710. Push the "on" button for the car,  the buzz goes away. 5 khz up or down, no nois

This is a somewhat broad statement, but, most manufacturers (Chrysler , Ford and Toyota) are okay with anything up to 100 Po.  As for your grief on 40, seems typical band where most headaches occur.

Our Samsung WF218 ANW  located no more than 8' from my Pro III has never made a peep of rfi. Don't know if its still a current model tho.  Maybe look for Canadian/Euro spec models that make less rfi

Look for a "sheet warmer, bed warmer" wall wart ps in one of the suspect homes. Had a neighbor whose sheet warmer was destroying ten meters. Guy wouldn't do a thing until I called local power company
