Don: I don't have an Argo V but I do have a Jupiter which probably has similar controls. In the Jupiter menu, if the TX filter bandwith is set too narrow, my audio on SSB will sound like you describe

You should not turn the ALC on the Triton IV "all the way up". The amount of ALC should be set so that the ALC light just winks on your voice peaks for whatever band you are transmitting on. 73, Larr
