Mike, I think what we're after is a Service and/or Technical Manual that goes beyond, or may be an addendum to, the FT-1000D Technical Supplement. Does such an animal even exist there in the archives

I see a similar thing on my FT-1000D. Highest signal strength when control set CW. Always thought the S-meter was a bit scotch, now I know why. Gee, maybe its a feature and not a bug ;-) 73 de Walt K

I wonder if anyone has had a similar "dip switch" problem with the FT-1000? In order to be zero-beat with the other station I've always had to set the XIT to -0.83 kHz. Maybe there was a misprint in
