The Ameritron AL-1500 , AL-1200 , Or ALPHA 87A . I need an Amp that will last a long time as I will retire soon and the funds will be limited. I work more CW than SSB, but do like SSB contest and DX.

This is really a 'no brainer." Just look under the hood, like buying a car, and see what you are getting. Report back to us what you see. Hint: look at the size of the band switch and the tank coils.

Yeah, and I sure do like the looks of the enameled exhaust manifolds on that V12 Ferrari, but I'm a little turned off by the $250,000 price tag. Someone who is willing to consider an 87A should proba

None of the above -- it uses 2X Svetlana 4CX800s, grid-driven -- see www.hfpower.com for more details. In my references to sturdier grids and instant-on, I was alluding to the AL-1200, not the ACOM.

Phil, not a total "no-brainer." You're talking under 2.5/2k for the Ameritrons vs. 5.3K for an Alpha! For long term use, you can't beat up an AL-1200, many, many contesters swear by em'. Only 2K new.

Phil, I was not recomending ANY of the choices listed. IMHO, the tank circuit components in the Ameritrons are far too small for legal limit. Even the Heath SB-220 has bigger coils and switches. They
