This site http://www.granta.g4axx.com/Linear_design_notes.php3 mentions a 500 uh plate choke specified as RF Parts no. RFC-4L. They tested it and report that it has no series resonances between 1 and

That's a pi wound choke (I'd like to know why it is called that). I usually see them in older ham AM rigs where the B+ is 1.5 KV or less and the Ip is no more than a few hundred ma. I am not saying i

REPLY: 500 uH is rather high for amateur use. Most plate chokes are half that or less. If you can't find what you want, RF Parts has a part number RFC-3 that is nearly a universal choke for legal lim

Pi stands for pie Rob, resembles a pie plate. In the "old days" the RF tanks were series fed so there was no concern about resonances and a lot of inductance was used. Carl KM1H -- Original Message -

I have several large pie-wound chokes, most around 1 mh or more. The thing about this one is that they found no series resonances below 100 mHz. It seemed to me that 500 uh would work well on 160m. I

Rob, The network is called a PI network because the shunt capacitors and series inductor resemble the Greek letter PI. Tom W0IVJ I am not saying it won't work in a modern RF power amp but all of the

It's a plate choke; the shunt caps are on one end; it's not an output network. 73 Rob K5UJ _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contestin

you can test your chokes yourself. Get a modern solid state ham rig and fix it so it puts out around 20 watts cw. dump the RF into a 50 ohm resistor and put a T in the line. Connect the stem of the T

K5UJ posted a really great idea to test an RF Choke for resonances, without needing even a GDO, (although every ham should still have one of these - in addition to an Almost All Digital L/C IIB meter

REPLY: That's correct, but remember... A parallel resonant circuit has circulating current inside it. As you drop the inductance of the choke the circulating current increases and if you drop it too

I was quick to credit W8JI in a subsequent post--I certainly do not want to be seen as stealing ideas, but for some reason anything I post to this reflector seems to be delayed by 24 hours or longer.
