For a good number of years, I had a Henry 3K Classic export with a single 8877. Peak power (fully tuned) occurred when the grid current was low, around 10 to 20 MA. I recently picked up an Alpha 77DX

The 77DX tube is likely getting soft (or will be) as 100 ma is considered the absolute safe maximum and at that point you are also likely well over the legal limit. Reduce the drive and grid current

When I acquired my 77DX I also had a similar high grid current reading. W9AC , as I recall, told me that the grid meter circuit is designed to read 2X actual grid current. It was probably on AMPS ref

Hi All, I have an Alpha 9500 with an interesting issue. The grid current slowly falls to near zero (less than 2-3 ma) with constant carrier input and constant output over a few minutes. The plate cur

Hello-   I am commissioning a newly built 144 Mhz 8877 amplifier and am seeking advice on grid current. My tube is a known good, low hours Eimac YU-209. The amplifier is the W6PO design. I rebuilt a

Hi Byron, I have a homebrewed 2m W6PO amp built to the dimensions given in the original W6PO article. I run it with an HT of about 3700V under load. The grid current and efficiency is very dependent
