Sorry, maybe I didn't use the proper terminology. The HV power supply in the Henry used a oil filled cap and a large input choke (looks like another large transformer). After a brief search looks lik

I have a 3KA that "talks" under high drive levels and I've wondered if it was the PS choke. Never worked up the motivation to try to isolate it, though. I wonder (yet again) if that says anything abo

Chokes dont like a heavy current with lots of ripple on it. Same with a modulation xfmr that passes DC in the secondary, they like to talk back to you. Carl KM1H _____________________________________

The choke/capacitor combination should be resonant at 15-20% above 120 Hz. When the choke lets loose I dont know what the failure mode is but Henry amps do it often. Poor manufacturing tolerance on t

Not according to Collins. They say that the choke should be resonant at 120 Hz with minimum critical current, eg bleeder current, which keeps voltage from soaring. As current draw increases the induc

Where does Collins say that and use it? Or are they just quoting old HB tripe or is it vice versa? I suppose that with components that are sized for the peak voltages encountered it might work but th

The choke needs to be resonant at 120 Hz with only bleeder current, not higher in frequency. Yes there are very high voltages across the choke at resonance. You need a very good cap and voltage capab
