Bottom line, Ameritron is junk. Its big plus is that they are cheap. Aren't they owned by MFJ? _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.conte

Yes they are. And as Tom said, it was designed to be "cheap". But it works, and I only paid $50 for it from a very old amateur dropping out of the hobby. He probably would have just given it to me,

Bob, I gotta say, the writer of that letter sounded like he was surely mad about something. When an amp is built cheap, it's cheap and no matter how much paint and flashing lights you add to the outs

It's not junk. It's not a bad design and most of the components are acceptable to good quality. It's likely to be more trouble-free (assuming that it has decent tubes in it) than many 'better' amplif

I can appreciate the fact that some hams just do not have the money for an Alpha or Acom. Rather than buying Ameritron junk why not buy a used Drake L4B or a Tentec amp, or even an SB220/200. Even th

Bob, Gimme a Drake L4-B any day and I'm satisfied. The SB-220 is a good choice but you may have to re-work bad construction techniques as you never know who built it. Same as the rest of the Heath pr

At the end of the day, the 572B isn't that good a tube for HF. OK, it 'gets by', but its structure isn't that good. As far as I can determine, it first appeared in the early 1950's as a zero bias aud
