Les, Is there anything in the tank circuit that could be breaking down? And do you have big diodes from B- to chassis at the power supply. My understanding is the purpose of them is to prevent damage

The tube is likely OK but the hardware needs a good examination and cleaning...all the way from the tube to the N connector and dont dismiss relays or coax. Is this being tested on a dummy load? Carl

I had arcing a bit like that fixing a friend's W6PO 2m 8877 amp. It didn't have the big bang take out the fuses side but we could see arcing somewhere around the fins when the power was wound up. It

Hi Les, I just went through the same experience with my 2m 8877 amplifier. The amp worked very well over the eme contest but did the big BOOM thing the next time I fired it up, only a couple of days
