The eBay Russian tubes, even when shipped from the USA yield poor results. A buddy of mine thought hey, let's pick up a cheap spare set of 4CX800 Russian tubes as a back up for the ones in his QRO. H

Just a minor point - I think there's no BeO in these (or most other external anode) tubes. The ceramic is Alumina - razor sharp if broken, but otherwise harmless. One exception which you might come

How can a gassy tube cause a flashover? You would expect the electrons to collide with gas molecules within the tube, hence to decrease plate current. But how can this possibly cause a short circuit
