That's not true at all! Steady white noise is NOT a good test of dynamics of bias or ALC systems. As a matter of fact, it is the poorest test available for determining bandwidth problems related to

That's what I was able to see, Tom. The IM products were much stronger with white noise & max ALC than with speech & no ALC or even speech with ALC. I did *NOT* do very comprehensive testing, in the

Joe, In order for ALC problems to be measured, you have to let the ALC actually do something meaningful. Any test that holds the ALC steady, such as a white noise or two-tone test, will not test ALC

I was figuring a white noise (gaussian) source would have large peak voltage excursions when I made that suggestion, Tom. Perhaps white noise AM modulated at a syllabic rate would be more appropriate

Look at how the various meters move on voice or CW. Look at how the same meters move on a white noise source, or on a two-tone test. When they dance around similar amounts and rates, the test will h

I just modulate the TX, i e speak into the microphone for a minute or so. Here you can see two examples of measurements, these two radios was fully modulated with speech. http://sk3w.shacknet.nu/sm2e

Too high to pump ALC and too high frequency to work the electrolytics. Too close to resolve IM products on most test gear. It has to be something that is well below the lowest audio frequency and rep
