Thanks guys for the input. I looked at the switch and it didn't have any obvious problems but I figured a better inspection is required. Disconnecting the transformer leads was on my list as well. A

One day when I switched from CW to SSB mode on my Clipperton-L it blew the fuse with a good bang. Why switch? Higher plate volts, lower grid current. Don't have to play the 1 kw input game any more.

check your power supply diodes. Simple task with a VOM on diode check mode. If that is OK then remove all the tubes and try again. If fuse does not blow then you have at least one bad tube. Look clos

I dont see how it can be the transformer since all 3 HV leads are always "hot" and the fuse only blows in SSB. Something on the PS board could be the problem and all that is easy enough to test. Carl

You are correct that the transformer leads are always hot. One side of the HV winding is always connected and the switch selects the other side of HV secondary or a tap on the HV secondary. If there

Why would you get a surge ? Every thing has been "on", the caps are charged most of the way, you are just going up a couple hundred volts. The amp groans quite a bit when first powered on of course.

What was done likely before you were a ham was simply the way it was back then. Lots of WW2 BC-375 switches were used to switch HV taps even on commercial gear. Dentron just chose a cheaper way which

Just as I suspected Larry, its very common. That is a standard Centralab switch so finding a suitable wafer shouldnt be too hard on fleabay, hamfests, etc. As long as the replacement has 2 positions

Carl, Do you know if those BC375 switches (still available from Fair Radio Sales!) were a standard switch that mostly got used in the BC375, or were they manufactured especially for the BC375? 73 Pet

I believe they were initially unique to the BC-375 (maybe the BC-196 predecessor) and then used as surplus in a lot of HB and commercial ham gear. Ive not seen them in any other WW2 or earlier gear.
