In looking for a datasheet for the 6A10 diode I came across a potentially hazardous find. One datasheet said the 6A10 was a 100 volt PIV diode, while another said it was a 1,000 volt PIV diode. So, u

You can't measure the PIV - that is something that manufactures design for. You could measure the voltage at which it avalanches, but that would not be the PIV. Personally I would look at the circuit

That would violate industry standards like crazy. Can't have a common P/N with different ratings. The 6A01 is the 100V version of a 6A10 (which is 1000V). 73 Steve WB2WIK I remember reading (on amps?

You can measure the breakdown Voltage with a scope, ac power supply and a resistor. The "PIV RATING" is a breakdown Voltage that their products shall not fall below. 40 years ago I measured many 1N40

Sounds like a cheap source of 155 V "zener" diodes - or to be more precise "avalanche" diodes! (Only joking, I'd rather use a diode designed as a voltage regulator) G8WRB -- A: Because it messes up t

That's a mistake in the Mouser catalog. The manufacturer data sheets, for example from DIODES INC. et al., all show 1000V for a 6A10. (And 100V for a 6A01.) -Steve WB2WIK ____________________________

And if you look at the datsheets from Taiwan Semiconductor the 6A10 is 100 PIV and the 6A100 is 1000PIV. Same as listed in the Mouser catalog. Guess it pays to look close. Bob W6VY __________________

Dick, the reason for the confusion is that there are indeed 2 different diodes with that designation! Mouser, for example, lists both of them. Take a look at both data sheets, and check the physical

I read that but that's just a matter of manufacturers making up rules as they go along. IRC registered the 6A series with JEDEC over 30 years ago, and the registration says a 6A10 is 1kV. A 6A01 is 1

True - very true. 155 V would be too low, but a pair of them in series gives 310 V, which is about right for a number of tubes! IIRC, both 4CX250B and 4CX1000A want 300 V on the screen, but I'm sure
