You may be surprised to know that the AL-82 uses the same capacitor vendor with the same plate spacings as the SB-220. It uses the same bandswitch construction as several Dentrons. Generic Modutec me

Yes that is correct Bill, "IF" you are always tuning up to the same specific power output! I was basing it on tuning up for MAXIMUM power output (as most of us do) from the amp in both pulse tune an

If you only want to run 1500 watts output then you need to fix your driver! Its power out needs to be limited so as not to overdrive the amp. 73 Gary K4FMX ___________________________________________

If you don't want to run over 1500 watts out and your amp is capable of more, then you need to limit drive power. At the proper drive power the amp still needs to be tuned for max output. 73 Gary K4

You will only splatter if your peak power attempts to exceed what the amp is tuned for. With voice I don't think that you will ever exceed 50% average power or come close to it without the peak powe

ORIGINAL MESSAGE: REPLY: Correct. All modern transceivers I am aware of do have a means to limit the drive power. Some older ones did not and that could be a problem. 73, Bill W6WRT _________________

Take a look at the Kenwood TS-430S, a rig that was marketed as late as the mid-1980s: It has a carrier control, allowing the power level to be controlled for CW ops and partially for AM, but the only
