Let me inject a little factual history of WHY Heath and others used that asinine idea of floating the grids with a choke. Collins came up with a very good idea in the 30S1. That amp used a cathode dr

I totally agree with Tom about increased stability of the amplifier. One of my teenaged amplifiers was a 3-500 amp. This was before I found the 3-1000 and had a love affair with that tube. The 3-500

I just want to clarify one thing, The poster that said he was going to ground his grids on his L4B and then report differences in "what I was led to believe" power output differences. I don't think y

Interesting story thats been repeated many times over the years on the reflector. Sort of a continuation of the Bill Orr obsession with an idea. However Ive never seen a simultaneous blown choke and

I certainly have. ....and you know it is age and moisture, and not an arc? I've got boxes of 50 year old micas here of the same style that aren't split from moisture. ...and you somehow know the arc

Why do you suppose that Collins put those little 47 ohm resistors in each grid on the 30L1 amplifier? 73 Gary K4FMX _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.c

The same way you know its an arc. Neither of us was watching when it happened. In my cases there was absolutely no other damage and the case was split at the seam, the weak link. I also have replace

The same reason Heath used 33 Ohms on the SB-200/201. They are an attempt to stabilize and also act as current limiters in case of nasty things trying to happen. They often blow open during a run awa

I can't speak for Collins since I wasn't there and have no first hand knowledge, but in the AL811H and AL572 I put the resistors there to equalize drive. The resistors eliminated the need to match c

The big professional txs that used a GG output stage tended either to have a tube with a grid flange bolted to the chassis, or a collet arrangement that clamped the grid electrically pretty firmly to
