The 551 or D also has just about the worst phase noise of any rig built. With strong signals it can wipe out many kHz and with an amp a lot more. I had one for a short time and didnt make any friends

I had a 551D for a long time and never heard any complaints. It looked pretty good on the SA also, I may have the plots around somewhere. I ran it barefoot, and at very reduced power into a MRF151G h

Nope, not a lemon as the phase noise problem eventually became discussion topics on VHF forums. There may have been mention of production changes but that was after I went with a transverter. Carl KM

Lou, if you can't easily find the molex connector that fits, you can jury-rig a workable solution just by using Molex pins or even 2 pieces of #22 wire...you're only using 2 conductors out of the 24
