Hello, Need guidance on whether the tube, 4CX1600B, is still good after an amp. failure during the ARRL Sweepstakes SSB Contest. When the amp. went out there weren't any flashes or smoke just no outp

Hi Mike, all of your voltage readings should be measured from the cathode terminal or as close to the cathode terminal as possible. There are several failure scenarios that would allow those voltage

Hello Mark, Filament in tube measures ~2.5 Ohms and the correct voltage is on the filament "pins" in the socket. Haven't measured the filament voltage at the tube for a while. It was done when settin

Hello George, Safely checked and the tube is warm after three minute warm up. Earlier had measured the resistance of the tube to be ~2.3 Ohms. 73, Mike, K4GMH ________________________________________

I'm not sure, but 2.3 ohms on a cold filament of a tube that size seems a bit high. I've never measured the cold resistance on a 12 volt filament transmitting tube, (only 5 or 7 volt tubes) but it s

That's close. It could have continuity and still be bad (but not likely); and remember that the resistance goes up a lot when the filament gets hot. 73, George T. Daughters, K6GT ____________________

Measuring the heater current would likely prove it one way or another. It's worth doing tests both in and out of the amp if you can - that might show some oddity in the connections. Out of the amp, g
