14/01/2014 11:52 Are there any working examples of amplifiers using Pi-L networks with a permeability tuned tuning coil, but also using taps on it? Thanks. -- Best Regards, Chris Wilson. mailto: chri

As far as known, it has never been done before, simply because nobody really needed it: it was more of a solution waiting for a problem. Winding coils on a core was done to reduce size, and concoctin

I vaguely remember seeing a 4 channel, 2-10 MHz, 100 watt output commercial amplifier using three 'instant heat' 6146s (actually QZ06-20)which used permeability tuning on the PA coils. I think the co

Maybe people wonder why I ask? I have a Henry 2000D RF generator a friend and I are converting to a 10n meter linear. It's near as damn it done now, a simple thing for many on here, a challenge for u

There used to be a power limit of 200 Watts in the novice/tech+ sub-band on 10 meters regardless of license class. Is that still in effect? 73 Bill wa4lav ________________________________________ Fro

There is no power limit of 200-watts for General Class, Advanced Class, or Amateur Extra Class operators in the 28.0 MHz to 28.5 MHz range.  There is a 200-watt power limit for Technician Class and N

Bill, The OP's licence allows 400 watts PEP at the antenna on most bands - exceptions are parts of 160 above 1850kHz, 70MHz and some higher bands. NOTE: 10 MHz allows 400 watts PEP! == Message Receiv

Somewhere in the seventies, in the ARRL handbook, there appeared a 6 meter amplifier tuned variometer style with a one turn shorted coil, rotating in the stationary tank coil. It wasn't very wideband

I have an older ARRL Handbook showing a coil that is compressed and allowed to re-expand via an internal threaded rod and two (Teflon?) plates at either end. I have a Russian R-140 tetrode amp that u

I had some experience of "shorted turn" tuning in the W2GN 6m amplifier which was used a flat rotating ring of copper. You're correct, Alex, that the tuning range is very narrow. It required some car

Actually it is permeability tuning in reverse: inserting the slug decreases inductance, but the net result is the same- moving the core changes the inductance. The physical mechanism is different: in
