In general, larger fans run at lower RPMs are the quietest. You can outboard a larger fan and run the air through a length of ducting, flexible or solid as long as it is a "squirrel cage" type blower

According to my own personal experience, I would avoid using DC fans if noise will be a concern. I find that they produce significant noise when compared to AC fans. If varying the speed electronical
