Point taken about the poor magnetic shielding of amp chassis. I did not mean to imply that the tubes were immune to the Earth's magnetic field but that the currents flowing are not of sufficient magn

"Accepted aeronautical engineering" never said this. It has been passed around sufficiently so as to become an "urban legend." See: http://www.sciencenews.org/sn_arc97/3_29_97/mathland.htm and http:/

** good point, however, I have not yet found an arc-mark on the grid cage of a 3-500Z with a bent filament helix that shorted against the grid cage. Nor have I found an anode-grid withstanding poten

I used to wonder if the attraction to the earth's magnetic field was a plausible explanation to the jumping cables. I came to the belief that it is not, as the earth's field is not that strong at any

During a short pulse (2 or 3 seconds) there is little rise in temperature in a large (welding) cable. Duration is really a significant factor in developing heat. However, I have intentionally passed

When the high voltage across the room arcs, I jump too - even though there is no connection. Of course I jump more if I am connected. I think if the arc was big enough, I would have EMF in my pants.
