At the risk of starting a raging philosophical war, I am looking for opinions on how to best manage wiring between an outboard HV supply and an RF amp deck. Here's the project: An old Alpha 77D is be

Paul, I don't believe there is any reason to treat a B- return as if it were a B+ lead. With your planned diode clamps, B- will always be within a few volts of chassis ground. Running a separate B- c

Exactly. Whoever recommended SHV connectors for the B-minus return of a normal amateur amplifier is showing a serious lack of understanding [1]. Also correct. That is the fatal flaw in using those bl

Hi All, Handling the B- return is straightforward with triode amplifiers, such as Paul's converted Alpha 77D, but it can be a bit tricky with tetrode amplifiers, which typically have cathodes directl

"Over the past several years I have been recommending 5-pin XLR connectors between the amplifier controller (assumed to be part of the RF deck) and a remote HV PSU. The aim is to keep the HV-minus, c

Paul and the group, I don't care much for Cinch-Jones connectors for amplfier control, especially the type that cannot be locked into place. They're a very old design and newer, better, safer connect

"A female chassis connector would be installed on the PS, and a recessed male chassis connector placed on the RF deck. With 8-pins, I can double-up on 240V and ground wiring." Just the opposite: 240V

What I did in my tetrode amp was to put an 0.25 ohm 50 watt resistor in the power supply box between the negative output of the power supply and ground. This was clamped with 6A10s both in the power
