The high bid will be pushed up by your bid to the minimum bid increment over the last highest bid. Should you place this bid early and someone keeps bidding it up, your bid is incremented automatical

Thanks for all the answers - it seems to be a dangerous way to go... Especially since a lot of buyers like to pay much more than the real value. Anyway, most sellers say "USA only" - don't know why!

As for USA only, it used to be the case with foreign dollar-denominated checks that the bank fees to negotiate them were more than the amount of the check. PayPal should have remedied that situation.
