I am repairing an FL2100B in which the powersupply went south, and I have found what appears to be the meter shunt burned out. (IP) It is a wirewound unit , and the manual doesn't tell me what it's v

If the resistor has burt out, there is a good chance the mater has too, so I would check that first. The value depends very much on the meter you have - its FSD and internal resistance as well as the

I have a Weston 301 meter 0-100 ma scaled meter and wish to make a shunt to use for screen current in my 4-1000 amp. The screen voltage is 300V I have used the formula RS=RM/(IS/IM) Okay here is what

If the meter's already scaled 100mA, why not just use it as it is? It probably already contains the correct shunt to make it 100mA full scale. Have you measured it to see what it actually reads? WB2W

Usually, but not always, meter cards (scale) will indicate the meter movement sensitivity in the lowest right hand location on the card, normally in a hard to see location. Like a 10 mA scale might

Surely, this depends on the meter. It's easy enough to measure and find out. Most of my "1mA" to "100mA" meters here (Simpsons, Westons) have those shunts built in. "1A" and higher meters almost alwa

Unless you take measurements the meter resistance is an unknown. The Handbooks and internet both describe the process. After that the math works. Carl KM1H ___________________________________________

It's almost a necessity as many meters have internal shunts and that's when you end up with those super low calculated external shunt values. At work we had a number of feed back sensors in SCR contr

i have a 1ma meter that i would like to rescale and use with a little gi7 2 meter amplifier. what size shunt should i use or what is the calculation i should use? Carey, kc5gtt ______________________

Hi Carey, there are number of ways to design meter shunts. A method used by many is to install a low value resistor in series with the circuit and measuring the voltage drop across the resistor with
