Hi, I have used soft start in a big 13.8v power supply, it uses much the same VA rating transformer that a medium sized linear would use (about 2500-3000VA). In my example mains (240v) is initially a

I normally use these as the HV supply master mains switch in the amplifier and have never had a dv/dt problem. If MOV's make you nervous, spark gaps are also suggested. According to Crydom their prod

** The HV filter capacitor in the anode-supply protects against spikes provided that FWB or FWD rectification is employed. ** Good MOVs have straps for leads instead of wires. ______________________
