When I was in electronics class the teacher called the screen grid in a tetrode an accelerator. With that not doing any accelerating I don't think it would work very well. OK like a 3-500Z, 3CX bla b

Well, it worked in my 813 GG amplifier. But don't count on being able to do that with very many tetrodes. Among other things, you have to be careful not to exceed the ratings for both grids. 73, Mike

A better way yet is to go G2DAF where the grid is swapped with either a 100 ohm or 200 ohm non inductive resistor and a pair of 6AX4 are used as rectifiers to drive the screens with the resulting dc

If that's the amp design I'm thinking about (4CX250B), it's a terrible design. It was notorious for splatter and distortion. With 813s, maybe it was OK. 73, Mike www.w0btu.com _______________________

The G2DAF configuration was a horrible idea. Don't go there. G2DAF's original receiver, transmitter and amplifier (as featured for years in various RSGB publications) used to be in the RSGB Museum...
