A while back, I began researching some of the changes made over the years in the ARRL and Canadian sections used in the Sweepstakes (mostly using the online QST archive at http://www.arrl.org/qst/).

Ken; Even though the US handed over control of the Canal Zone in October 1979, the section still existed for Sweepstakes that year. The 1979 Sweepstakes was in fact the least year for the CZ section.

At some point in the recent past (1970s?) the "MDC" section - {M)aryland + (D)elaware + district of (C)olumbia - was split into "DE" and "MDC" - now just MD + DC. Bob, w3idt -- ex DC resident .......

478 Sweeps ! That is a remarkable number. Consider, that in 1979, there were no packet clusters, no assisted/unlimited class and only a few did single-op SO2R. 73, Steve, N2IC _______________________

Just to be clear, that was 478 sweeps across both the CW and phone weekends together. The 1979 results for both weekends were presented in a single article in the May, 1980 QST. But yeah. -- Kenneth

Hi Ken The following may help you narrow your search. UTWY is one section MN is one section Philippines is not shown in the Section list Hawaii is listed as a Section in the Pac Division KH0, KH2 etc
