For Field Day, an even better source of spots would be the Reverse Beacon Network's Telnet node at telnet.reversebeacon.net port 7000. It spots everything, not just what spotters think are important

We'll be using traditional packet and skimmer spotting networks at W3AO. A good source is the reversebeacon.net web site. You can telnet direct to them or pick one or two receiver sites close to you

If you are introducing potential contesters to contesting via Field Day, I think it is much better to get them running stations, vs. using spotting - they will be much better off getting comfortable

Last year at W1NY I had a second computer connected to my node back at home. It was on the second screen, so it didn't interface with the logging program but was helpful once in a while for a "rare"

To some extent, you are right - if the goal is to just increase the number of contesters, then recruiting video gamers by making radio contesting look like video gaming is probably a better way to go
