W6OAT and I are about 800 miles apart near Seattle and San Francisco respectively, and we both observed the same thing during CQ160SSB -- running stations that are very solid copy are DEAF. Contester

Well, I agree that can be frustrating (TI1T comes to mind from this weekend) but I think there can be various reasons for it.  High local noise can be a factor, of course, but so can the use of omnid

Another explanation is that they may have directional RX antennas pointing NE - where the majority of contacts are - while running omni-type TX antennas. 73/jeff/ac0c alpha-charlie-zero-charlie www.a

Hellooooo W6/W7 !!! The CQ 160M contest scoring is so skewed to favoring W1/W2/W3 --> EU Q's, there is no reason to change the 160M 4 SQ from pointing NE. All that is needed is a single CA/OR/WA QSO

Shouldn't you be equally lower in signal strength on the 4 square as your ability to hear callers from the west? Not an alligator? In my case, I have a bi-directional array pointing NE/SW and I also

Don't be depressed if people can't hear you. Happens to me all the time. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't love you. Usually when I sweep a band, calling everyone I can hear, most of the people

Living in the city, surrounded by overhead power lines, etc., I'm certainly an alligator on 160, as well as 80.   I rarely call CQ on those bands in DX contests, but do when it's productive. I'm sure

I have to agree with K1TN. I have often been frustrated on 160 by S9+ stations ignoring me, while the guy I can barely copy comes right back. I don't think the big stations are intentionally ignoring

It would be nice if 160 contests used distance based scoring like the Stew Perry. Stations on the east coast don't only have a scoring advantage as far as 10 point QSO's they work but also the number
