It looks like it would be a good laptop. You would have to get the external DVD/CD-ROM to load XP. The major limitation might be the 800X480 resolution which would keep you from using a lot of window

Both sound interesting for their size, especially for outings I enjoy like Field Day, the Flight of the Bumblebees, or a county expedition in a QSO party, although contest software for either of them

Bear in mind the the OLPC machine isn't really something you can go to a store and buy. It's a purpose-built machine intended to provide technology in areas where they might not otherwise have access
