According to Skimmer, I was CQing at an average speed of 25 WPM during Sweepstakes. Most callers answered at or near my calling speed. But, a not insignificant subset responded nearer 35 WPM, includi

Frankly, I found it much more common for people CQing at any moderate speed to be unable actually to handle information at that speed, so I tended to slow down *at least* to the CQing station's speed

I get the same response throughout the contests. I can't head copy past 25-28 wpm... so I run at 22-25 wpm. Most guys will call in at around 25 wpm and I do ok at making it through the QSO without me

Interesting discussion. I CQ'd most of the contest at 32 wpm, with bursts of up to 36 or 38 wpm when I had big pileups. In general, I was never asked for fills. I did have guys who called me at the s

The skimmers showed me running 21-23 wpm...pretty accurate. When called by someone at a slower speed I *always* slow down, in one case to 14wpm...easy to do with N1MM Logger. In that case the station

What a coincidence. Yesterday I checked the RBN to see if W1VE ever slowed down his speed under 30 wpm during SS. I compared myself, W1VE, K1RX and K5ZD. I have always noticed Randy will slow down in

I noticed this year, more than ever, CW speed seemed to be an issue. Of course, I haven't made a serious SS attempt since my Colorado days, but I digress... W4** CQ at 35wpm. Yes, 35wpm. I called him

I envy the guys running at 30+ who by and large make the high rate with their abilities. It reminds me to continue working hard. I believe the only wrong thing occurring is when an op will not QRS wh

Sadly this has all but become forgotten. It was a Standard Operating Procedure as an Old novice days. You send at the speed you want people to reply to you at. And when you call someone you call them
