We will almost certainly be replacing a HyGain BN4000 one-to-one balun here shortly with a WX0B one-to-one balun. It is important to get the "center conductor" connected to the same half-element of t

Jim, The BN-4000 manual says the balun is just a string of beads over coax. Ohmmeter should work fine. "The BN4000 uses ferrite beads over a short length of coax cable to choke-off the flow of RF on

No, I think the BN4000 will look like a DC short in all directions to an ohm-meter. But if the BN4000 is being taken out of service, you can remove the "slab" cover and visually examine the wiring I

If what VE1DT says is true, then ignore my previous message. I'd always assumed the 4000 was just a beefier version of the BN86 which is a traditional "wound on toroid" design. 73, de Hans, K0HB -- h

Jim, A lot of modern baluns are nothing more than ferrite beads strung on a length of coax inside the case. Those can be phase tested easily with an ohmmeter. But then again, some baluns are not. I u

Jim, In this link: http://www.hy-gain.com/man/pdf/BN-4000B.pdf Read the note under figure No. 3 Strange, if it is just beads around a piece of coax. David HK1KXA EC5KXA ______________________________
