Hello all, Can anyone tell me the approximate duty cycle for 30-35wpm CW in a contest? Thanks and 73, Darrell AB2E _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@c
The duty cycle for CW does not vary with speed. The standard word PARIS for assessing speed has 50 units, of which 22 are key down. Therefore, the duty cycle is 44% for an average of 5 characters p

I would be inclined to half Pauls number, because you need to listen also. 73, de Hans, KØHB Just a Boy and his Radio ________________________________ From: CQ-Contest <cq-contest-bounces+kzerohb=gma
The overall duty cycle DOES vary with speed because the pauses after a CQ, between S&P QSOs, etc. are relatively fixed spaces independent of speed. SO, if the CW is faster, there will be less transmi
Thanks to all who responded with great info. The consensus is that even with the variables, the duty cycle will not likely be over 50% at my regular contest speed of 30-35wpm. The reason for my quest
The big variable is your callsign when calling CQ. K0OOO is a high duty cycle call, but EE5E is low. - K1EA _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@contesti
It does, because the pause between CQs is a component of duty cycle 73, Jim K9YC _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@contesting.com http://lists.contest

I would guess that running a pileup your CW duty cycle would be closer to 25%. What is the antenna and why is the power level so questionable? FWIW, I have never had an issue setting up a Yagi, dipol
Greetings John & the group, The antenna in question is the PreciseRF HG3 QRO, an MLA loop, advertised at 1500W. When I dug into the actual specs, it's 50% duty cycle for CW at 800W, and 25% duty cycl
Not necessarily true. He already stated that his concern is the limited power handling capability of the portable antenna he is planning to use. The same could be said if he was using a small antenn
Did you see the original post? He was concerned about the power rating of the antenna. 73, Jim K9YC _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@contesting.com h
I will put my end-fed wire and 100 watts up against a three-thousand dollar loop antenna on the ground and 1500 watts, and I will WIN every time. cain K1TN ___________________________________________
Hi Darrell, What about vertical dipole(s) on a small fibre glass pole (I love the Mini from DXwire)? You can put as much power on it as your coax can cope and you can put it up everywhere. Omnidirect
Worst case is probably calling CQ with no replies. For example, my typical CQ takes about 4 seconds, and I listen for 1.8-2.5, depending on the contest. It should be easy to calculate the duty cycle
