I tried to play in all three state QP's but was frustrated by VA's requirement for a SN. I got N1MM to accept all the different county exchanges by modifying the QSOParty.sec file. But when I worked

I was going to start a thread on this topic as well though I was going to start in the N1MM group. This weekend there are 5 contests I participated in. Maybe not "normal" for a diehard contester, but

This is a topic of interest here as well... One needs to be pretty agile to swap contests, even more so if the exchanges vary. This is the one major challenge for the MARAC/7QP/NEQP/InQP/ARI weekend.

The idea of what to have as an exchange has been an issue for a while now. As a person who's first several contest efforts were with serialized exchanges, I was kind of surprised by the 599 automatic

W0QE proposed a standard set of abbreviations for the MARAC contest, but they have never been adopted by state QSO parties, where the state is implied, and therefore isn't necessary in the abbreviati

I have a copy of this, and it makes a lot of sense. Of course, if it isn't adopted, it's still an orphan. Shame as it took a lot of work to put it together... Julius Fazekas N2WN Tennessee Contest Gr

IIRC, one of the big reasons that it wasn't adopted was that it didn't do much for the state parties, made the entry a little more complicated - it is much easier to have a typo - and required them t

Actually, one of things Larry did was to "encode" the abbreviations in such a way that a typo wouldn't usually alias to another (different) abbreviation. Sort of like built-in error checking. I agree

It didn't help that after MARAC had put their list together, some of the MARAC people started demanding that all state QSO parties switch to their abbrevriations. As I recall, one state QSO party did

WØQE did a thorough job of creating the 3,077 state/county codes. It's a shame the "Not invented here" syndrome has precluded his work to be leveraged as a QSO Party standard. Does anyone remember th

What would help the casual operator is also consistency. Imagine if you could pop into many contests and know what needs to be done? Do I need to send a serial number? My state? Both? Something else?
