I might as well get in on this. Suppose there is a rare DX station in the contest, and somebody needs him for new country and HE is not in the contest and works him one time. That makes him unique so

I think some thought and logic should be applied. If the unique is likely a busted call, maybe it should be labeled as such. If someone logs W9SG in a CW contest and I show up in others' logs around
