I live on 35 acres and have lots of room for towers and antennas. The location seems pretty quiet so I'm looking forward to some serious antenna building. In preparation for spring and summer tower a

Well said. I'd be more worried about a loose connection at a transformer bushing but even more worried about a cracked insulator on an overhead distribution pole than anything. You're underground fee

RFI from an overhead transformer propagates by both radiation and conduction. In my experience conduction is the bigger problem and is often difficult to pinpoint. Radiation is usually limited by the

My property has the pad mount transformer in my backyard. Been there 21 years, and I've never had any power line noise from the transformer. While transformer RFI problems aren't nearly as common as

Not RFI, but don't overlook the possibility of baseband (power frequency) leakage magnetic fields around large transformers, or even from the ground wiring for those transformers. Such fields are cou

Virtually all audio transformers used by hams are unshielded -- shielded transformers are used in pro audio (Jensen, of Burbank, CA is the Cadillac brand), but they aren't cheap. Adding to Jim's reco

I was surprised by one of the things we found here this past summer. One of my stronger noise sources was being heard on all bands 1.8 to 50 MHz. It may have extended well beyond that but I don't hav

Audio transformers? Gee, don't you know that transformers degrade sound, everything has to be direct output, and power cords have to be oxygen free copper, do that last 36 inches makes a difference..
